American Staffordshire Terriers - Temperament Tests

It is acknowledged that American Staffordshire Terriers should not show excessive aggressiveness. On the contrary, the dog should be steady and obedient to exclude any threat for the public. Responsible breeders and owners of American Staffordshire Terriers agree that it is a matter of paramount importance to breed and train balanced dogs. To evaluate the dog's personality, a few tests are used. They are a good insurance against vicious behavior of the dog.

The SCT Test (Social Compatibility Test) is one of the means to determine the dog's temperament. Like many other tests, it uncovers the way the dog will behave in everyday situations. It consists of ten stages each of which is scored. Each stage is scored from 0 to 10 points. The most obedient dogs that pass the stage successfully get the highest point. The best representatives of the breed achieve the total of 100 points. They are the pride of the owners and trainers.

Testing temperament traits is essential for American Staffordshire Terriers since they are strong working dogs. Determining their working qualities also helps to improve the breed.
